FORT ABERCROMBIE INTERPRETIVE CENTER The primary purpose of the Fort Abercrombie Interpretive Center was to function as a public gallery to display artifacts of the area in a climate controlled environment. The Center needed to provide a gift shop as an additional amenity for the facility as well as administrative areas, restrooms, janitorial, storage, and other basic support areas. The low maintenance facility was designed by combining the overall historical concept and Owner requirements. For the safety of the personnel and visitors, the open layout allows an individual employee to view all areas of building access. The overall design concept of the Fort Abercrombie Interpretive Center stemmed from the original Block House lookouts of the historic fort. |

FORT BUFORD BARRACKS RECONSTRUCTION Lightowler Johnson Associates assisted the North Dakota Historical Society in developing design and construction documents for the reconstruction of an historical enlisted officers barracks building. The infantry barracks is used by the State Historical Society and a local group of re-enactors who portray the lives of frontier soldiers. It’s design reflects the construction techniques of the 1860s and 1870s, while blending in with the three period buildings at Fort Buford. The integrity of the interior reflects the design of the mid 1800’s. Electrical outlets and lighting options were to be hidden from view and windows needed to be reminiscent of the era.
