The project consists of civil sitework and layout, architectural, structural, and mechanical design for the construction of a 120,000 sq. ft. furniture store. This store contains a two-story display space, accompanied by a 22,000 sq. ft. warehouse, office space for managers and sales personnel as well as a cookie shop and restrooms for customers, completing the interior public spaces.

The function of the space was to provide an inviting shopping atmosphere for customers, while incorporating similar attributes of other stores.

Kmart Remodeling, Fargo, ND

The project consisted of the remodeling of an existing 89,000 square foot building and a 60,000 square foot addition along the building's east wall.  The exterior facade, landscaping and site lighting were redesigned to meet specific Kmart design criteria.  The interior retail, offices and warehouse spaces were adjusted to meet the needs of Kmart Corporation.

Throughout the design and construction process, Lightowler Johnson Associates' architectural and engineering staff worked closely, under a very aggressive schedule, with Kmart's corporate architects and engineers.

Moorhead Center Mall, Moorhead, MN

The project began in 1972 and was constructed as part of the city's Urban Renewal Project.  We master planned the entire project including the surrounding parking lots which are owned by the City of Moorhead.

The first phase of the project consisted of 40,000 square feet and was designed as the first commercial condominium project in the State of Minnesota.  This  phase was designed to accommodate several existing retail businesses which were located in the Downtown Urban Renewal District.  In addition to designing the facility, Lightowler Johnson Associates assisted several of the relocating businesses with the interior design of their retail space.

Additions were added to the Mall from the completion of Phase I in 1973 in accordance with the master plan through 1988.  The last additions accommodated what became the Herberger’s Department Store which ultimately expanded in 1991 and 1992 to 106,000 square feet.

The shopping center as configured today contains 215,000 square feet of retail space, a 234 vehicle parking ramp and a 97 vehicle parking deck spanning First Avenue North, all designed by Lightowler Johnson Associates.
